President Bola Tinubu has finally named members of his cabinet, two months after taking office.
Mr Tinubu sent 28 names to the Senate for approval and the names were read out by Senate president Godswill Akpabio on Thursday – just a day short of the statutory deadline for a new administration to appoint their cabinet.
The list was handed to Mr Akpabio by the president’s chief of staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
The list has four former governors and four women.
The former governors are David Umahi, Nasir el-Rufai, Nyesom Wike, and Abubakar Badaru.
Other names are Abubakar Momoh, Yusuf Tukur, Ahmed Dangiwa , Hannatu Musawa, Uche Nnaji, Berta Edu, and Dorris Aniche Uzoka.
Other names are Ekperikpe Ekpo and Nkiru Onyeojiocha, both, former House of Representatives members; Olubunmi Ojo, Stella Okotette and Uju Ohaneye.
The list also has Bello Muhammad, Dele Alake, Lateef Fagbemi, Muhammad Idris, Olawale Edun, Waheed Adelabu, Iman Ibrahim, Ali Pate, Joseph Utsev, Abubakar Kyari, John Eno, and Sani Abubakar Danladi.
“While hoping that the additional nominations will be sent in due course I hope that the aforementioned nominees will receive the expeditious consideration and confirmation of the Senate,” Mr Tinubu said in his letter.
The nominees are to go through Senate screening before their confirmation as ministers.

More names may be added to the list as the Nigerian constitution mandates the president to appoint a minister from each of the country’s 36 states.
Two supporters of Mr Tinubu whose names were notably not on the list are former Lagos Governor Babatunde Fashola and former Junior Labour Minister Festus Keyamo.
