Governorship election results: Here’s summary of who won where

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared results of the governorship election for all 24 states.

The elections held on Saturday in 28 of 36 states, the rest having off-cycle contests. Voting in several states were marred by violence and intimidation of voters. Two results are still being awaited — Enugu and Abia, while two elections were declared inconclusive — Kebbi and Adawawa.

The All Progressives Congress leads with 15 states followed by the PDP which won eight states. The New Nigerian Peoples Party won in Kano and Labour Party is leading in Enugu and Abia although the results have yet to be officially announced.

This is how things stand:

South-South

Akwa Ibom: Umo Eno of the PDP has been declared winner in Akwa Ibom, extending the party’s reign in the oil rich states. Mr Eno, a former commissioner for lands and water resources, won in 29 of the state’s 31 local government areas. He scored 354,348 votes to defeat his top challenger, Bassey Albert of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), who won in two local governments areas, scoring 136,262 votes.

The candidates of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and Labour Party scored 12,509 and 4,746 votes.

Cross River: In Cross River, the governorship candidate of the APC, Bassey Otu, has been declared the winner of the governorship election. Mr Otu, a former senator and House of Representatives member, secured the win in 15 of 18 local government areas of the state with 258, 619 votes, beating the PDP candidate, Sandy Onor, who scored 179,636 votes.

Delta: The candidate of PDP in Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has been declared winner of the March 18 governorship election by INEC. He won in 21 of the state’s 25 local government areas with a total of 360,234 votes. APC’s Ovie Omo-Agege (APC) scored 240,229 and Ken Pela of LP scored 48,017 to place second and third respectively.

Rivers: Siminialayi Fubara, the candidate of the PDP won the Rivers state governorship election. Mr Fubara, the anointed candidate of incumbent governor, Nyesom Wike’e polled a total of 302,614 votes to beat Tonye Cole (APC) who scored 95,274 and Magnus Abe of SDP 46,981.

Bayelsa: There was no governorship election here.

Edo: There was no governorship elections here.

South-East

Ebonyi: Ebonyi state House of Assembly speaker, Francis Nwifuru, of the APC was declared winner of the governorship election. Mr Nwifuru polled 199,131 votes. Ifeanyi Odii of PDP scored 80,191 votes and Bernard Odo of APGA scored 52,189 votes to place second and third positions.

Enugu: No official result yet, but the LP is leading here.

Abia: No official result yet, but the LP is leading here.

Imo: There was no governorship election here.

Anambra: There was no governorship election here.

South West

Lagos: Incumbent Babjide Sanwo-Olu of the APC was declared winner after polling 762,134 votes. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the LP received 312,329 votes while PDP’s Olajide Adediran scored 62,449. Mr Sanwo-Olu won 19 local government areas while the labour party candidate won one local government.

Ogun: Gov Dapo Abiodun of the APC scored 276,298 to defeat Ladi Adebutu of PDP who polled 262,383. With the win, Mr Abiodun has secured his second and final term of four years.

Oyo: In Oyo, Gov. Seyi Makinde of PDP polled 563,756 pick a second term. He defeated Teslim Folarin of APC who polled 256,685 votes.

Ondo: There was no governorship election here.

Osun: There was no governorship election here.

Ekiti: There was no governorship election here.

North Central

Kwara: Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of the APC won a second term with 273,424 votes against Abdullahi Yaman of PDP who scored 155,490 votes.

Nasarawa: Governor Sule Tanko of the APC won re-election, with 347,209 votes ahead of his closest opponent- David Ombugadu of the PDP who secured 283,016 votes. The APC won in 11 out of the 13 local government areas of the state.

Benue: In Benue, the APC Governorship Candidate Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia defeated his PDP rival, Mr. Titus Uba to be declared winner. Alia, a catholic priest clinched a win with a total of 473,933 votes. He won in 17 of the states 23 local government arears while second place Titus Uba (PDP) scored 223,913 to take  local governments and Herman Hembe (LP) scored 41,881 at third place.

Plateau: Plateau state governor-elect is Caleb Mutfwang of the PDP. Mr Mutfwang was declared winner having scored 525,299 votes. Nentawe Yilwatda of the APC scored 481,370 votes and Patrick Dakum of LP scored 60,310 votes to be placed second and third.

Niger: Umar Bago, the APC’s candidate has won the Niger state governorship race. The APC candidate polled a total of 469896 votes to beat close rival Isah Liman-Kantigi (PDP) who scored 387,476. Joshua Bawa of LP came third with 3,415 votes.

Kogi: There was no election here.

North East

Yobe: Gov. Mala Buni of the APC clinched a second term with 317,113 votes., defeating his closest opponent, Sherif Abdullahi of the PDP who polled 124, 259 votes. Garba Umar of the NNPP scored 14,246 votes, while Arabi Mohammed of the Action Alliance polled 3,260.

Gombe: Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of APC was returned with 342,821 voters, ahead of 233,131 votes scored by Muhammed Barde of PDP.

Bauchi: Gov Bala Mohammed of the PDP won a second term with 525,280 votes, defeating Sadique Abubakar of the APC who received 432,272 votes.

Borno: In Borno, incumbent, Babagana Zulum won by landslide defeating PDP’s Mohammed Ali Jajari to be declared winner of the governorship race. Zulum who is widely claimed to have performed well in his first tenure won the majority vote in all 27 local government areas of the state. Second placed Ali Jajari (PDP) scored 81,850 and Ibrahim Mshelia (LP) scored 1,517.

Adamawa: Inec on Monday declared the Adamawa State governorship election as inconclusive. The two major contending parties – The APC and PDP have continued to trade blames on allege infractions during the Saturday poll.

Taraba: Kefas Agbu, a former Army officer and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been declared the winner of the Taraba state governorship election. Agbu scored a total of 257,926. Muhammad Yahaya (NNPP) scored 202,277 to be placed second while Emmanuel Bwacha (APC) scored 142,502 at third place.

North West

Sokoto: The candidate of the APC, Ahmed Aliyu, won in Sokoto, beating the ruling PDP candidate, Saidu Umar. Mr Aliyu got 453,661 votes against Mr Umar’s 404,632.

Kano: In Kano, the NNPP candidate, Abba Kabir, won with 1,019,602 votes to defeat the candidate of the APC, Nasiru Gawuna, who scored 890,705 votes. Mr Gawuna is the current deputy governor.

PDP’s Muhammad Abacha scored 15,957 votes while Labour Party’s Ishaq Bashir scored 5,409 votes.

Kaduna: APC’s Senator Uba Sani polled 730, 002 votes to beat other candidates to become Kaduna state governor elect. Mr Uba was supported by the incumbent governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai. Isa Ashiru of PDP came close with 719,196 votes at second place while Jonathan Asake (LP) scored 58,283 votes.

Katsina: Dikko Umar-Radda of the APC polled 859,892 votes to emerge governor-elect, according to the electoral commission, Inec. Yakubu Lado-Danmarke of the PDP followed with 486,620 votes.

Zamfara: In Zamfara, Dauda Lawal of PDP defeated Bello Matawalle, the incumbent governor of APC to become the governor elect. In the final results tallied by INEC, Mr Lawal scored 377,726 while Mr Matawalle scored 311,976. The PDP candidate polled the majority votes in 10 of the state’s 14 local government areas while Mr Matawalle won in the remaining four local governments. Aliyu Dansadau of NRM scored 2,416 to place third.

Kebbi: Inec declared the governorship election in Kebbi state inconclusive. The returning officer said the decision was taken after votes cancelled were more than the difference between the two leading parties.

Jigawa: The APC candidate, Umar Namadi, was declared winner of the election having won in 26 of the 27 local government areas with a total of 618,449 votes. The candidate of the PDP, Mustapha Lamido, polled 368,726 votes while Aminu Ringim of NNPP got 37,156 votes.
