Keyamo nominated as minister after being snubbed twice

President Bola Tinubu has finally put forward the nomination of Festus Keyamo as a minister, after the politician was left off the first two lists sent to the Senate.

Mr Keyamo was a junior labour minister in the previous government of Muhammadu Buhari, and he has been an ardent supporter of Tinubu, often attacking opposition parties and their supporters. He was mocked when his name was not included in the first two lists but was finally nominated on Friday.

– Second from Delta

Mr Keyamo’s appointment means that he is the second nominee from Delta State in the cabinet, after Stella Okotette.

In a letter to the Senate President, Mr Tinubu said he was withdrawing the nomination of Maryam Shetty and replacing her with Mairiga Mahmud, also from Kano.

Mr Keyamo’s appointment is likely to be controversial, but it is the latest sign that President Tinubu is rewarding his loyal supporters.

The second list was replete with former governors and ministers, many who had failed to perform while in office.
