President Bola Tinubu has made significant changes to his cabinet, relieving five ministers of their duties and appointing seven new ones.
Dismissals
The affected ministers include Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye (women affairs), Lola Ade-John (tourism), Jamila Bio Ibrahim (youth development), Tahir Mamman (education), and Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo (state, housing and urban development). The dismissals were announced at a federal executive council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday.
In a statement, the presidency expressed gratitude to the outgoing ministers for their service, wishing them well in their future endeavours.
New appointments
Mr Tinubu also appointed seven ministers. They are Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu, who will serve as minister of state for foreign affairs, and Jumoke Oduwole, assigned to the ministry of industry, trade, and investment.
Nentawe Yilwatda has been named the new minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty reduction, replacing the suspended Betta Edu, while Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi will take over as minister of labour and employment. Other new appointments include Idi Mukhtar Maiha (livestock development), Yusuf Abdullahi Ata (state, housing and urban development), and Suwaiba Said Ahmad (state, education).
Redeployments
In addition to the new appointments, Mr Tinubu also reassigned 10 ministers to new portfolios.
Yusuf Tanko Sununu, former minister of state, education, is now minister of state humanitarian affairs and poverty reduction; Morufu Olatunji Alausa, former minister of state, health, is now minister of education.
Bello Muhammad Goronyo, minister of state, water resources and sanitation, is now minister of state for works; Abubakar Eshiokpekha Momoh, minister of Niger Delta Development, is now minister of regional development.
Uba Maigari Ahmadu, minister of state, steel development, is now minister of state, regional development; Doris Azoka-Anite, minister of industry, trade and investment, is now minister of state, finance; John Owan Enoh, was minister of sports development, is now minister of state, trade and investment (industry).
Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, minister of state, police affairs, is now in charge of women affairs; Ayodele Olawande, minister of state for youth development, is now minister for youth development; while Salako Iziaq Adekunle Adeboye, minister of state, environment, is now minister of state, health.
Merged Ministries
Mr Tinubu replaced the Ministry of Niger Delta Development with the Ministry of Regional Development, which will now oversee all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission, the South East Development Commission, the North East Development Commission, and the North West Development Commission.
He dissolved the Ministry of Sports Development, with its responsibilities transferred to the National Sports Commission, chaired by Shehu Dikko.
The Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Arts and Culture have been merged to form the Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy.
Sunday Dare, who served as the sports minister under the Buhari administration, was appointed as the special adviser to the president on public communication and orientation within the Ministry of Information.
