Meta launches subscription service for VR gamers

The first set of Meta Quest+ subscribers before July 31 will receive the first month for $1.

Meta Platforms has launched a virtual reality (VR) gaming subscription service.

The new Meta Quest+ service will give subscribers access to two hand-picked VR titles every month.

– Key points to note

Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg, in a broadcast channel on social media app Instagram on Monday, said the Meta Quest+ subscription will be available from Monday at $7.99 per month, or $59.99 annually.

The first set of subscribers before July 31 will receive the first month for $1.

Meta Quest+ is available to owners of its Quest 2 and Quest Pro headsets, and will be available to those who purchase the new Quest 3 when it becomes available later in the year.

The initial game lineup includes the action-rhythm game FPS Pistol Whip and the arcade adventure game Pixel Ripped 1995. In August, players can look forward to Walkabout Mini Golf and Mothergunship: Forge.

Subscribers will be able to keep the games for as long as they remain active Meta Quest+ members.

This sets it apart from PlayStation, which does not include VR games in its PlayStation Plus subscription.

Meta called the plan “the most affordable way to grow your library with killer content.”

– VR market

The company also recently revealed upcoming games for its VR headset, including Stranger Things VR, Assassin’s Creed, and Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord.

Meta’s launch of Meta Quest+ reflects its commitment to shaping the nascent VR market. While VR headset adoption has been predominantly limited to the gaming community, Meta aims to make VR more accessible to a broader audience through its subscription service.

The company faces competition from Apple, which reportedly has its own VR headset in the works.
