United States President Donald Trump has announced that the international Board of Peace has reached a historic agreement for the “complete disarmament” of Hamas and all other armed groups in the Gaza Strip, signaling a major breakthrough in the second phase of his regional peace roadmap.
In a statement posted to his Truth Social platform late Thursday, President Trump hailed the agreement—negotiated alongside regional mediators Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey—as a monumental milestone toward ending the conflict and establishing a new governing structure for the enclave.
“Today, the Board of Peace reached a HISTORIC agreement for the COMPLETE DISARMAMENT of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza,” President Trump wrote. “This is a monumental step toward lasting PEACE and SECURITY.”
The BBC reports a senior Hamas official has confirmed the Palestinian group has agreed to the Board of Peace’s deal to completely disarm, framing their acceptance as an effort to facilitate full Israeli withdrawal and expedite the reconstruction of Gaza.
However, the deal faces immediate headwinds from Jerusalem. Reports say Israel was opposed to a deal that was being discussed with Hama and that “an Israeli office” had issued a statement saying the disarmament proposal did not meet Jerusalem’s demands.
