DSTV Fees Up Again: Sixth hike in six years pushes costs 152% higher

The highest package will now cost N37,000, up from N29,500. The premium cost N14,700 in 2018.

DStv subscribers in Nigeria face their sixth price hike in six years, with Multichoice announcing another subscription fee increase.

This latest price adjustment brings the total cost increase for DStv subscriptions to a staggering 152% since 2018, according to data compiled by Pluboard.

In a note to customer on Wednesday, the South Africa-headquartered company said new rates for its DStv and GOtv packages will come into effect on May 1.

It blamed “the rise in the cost of business operations” and called the increase a “difficult decision.”

The highest package will now cost N37,000, up from N29,500. The premium cost N14,700 in 2018.

The continual price hikes raise concerns about affordability at a time of severe economic hardship.

Nigeria inflation hit a multi-decade high of 33.20 percent in March, the highest since 1996.

DStv remains a dominant player in the Nigerian satellite TV market, offering a wide variety of channels and content.
