Two thrown into Lagos lagoon during Third Mainland Bridge accident

Authorities said a search is underway by marine police.

A terrifying accident on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos has left two people missing, presumed to have fallen into the Lagos lagoon.

According to a statement released by Ibrahim Farinloye, the Lagos Territorial Coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), a speeding LT 18-seater bus (registration number FKJ 872 YA) swerved off the road and collided with the bridge railings on the Adeniyi Adele axis heading towards Lagos Island.

The force of the impact ejected two passengers, an adult male and female, from the bus. Marine Police are currently searching for the missing individuals.

“The victims, an adult male and female are being searched by the marine police,” Mr Farinloye said. “The injured have been evacuated to a nearby hospital.”

It was not immediately clear how many people were involved in the accident.
