Flutterwave customers get last chance to remove funds as Barter shuts

Customers have until March 12 to withdraw their funds after which they will be inaccessible.

Nigerian payment company Flutterwave says it is close to a final shutdown of its payment app Barter and customers have a last chance to remove their remaining funds.

Customers have until March 12 to withdraw their funds after which their Barter accounts will become inactive and the funds inaccessible, Africa’s largest startup said in a notice seen by Pluboard.

“As you are aware from our previous communications, we are close to Barter’s final shutdown,” it said in a notice on the app.

The company said the following services have been discontinued: funding Barter balance, requesting money, transferring Barter to Barter and making bill and airtime payments.

“Please withdraw any remaining funds from your Barter balance by transferring them to your bank accounts as soon as possible,” it said.

In an email message to a customer, the company said: “As a final reminder, please withdraw your funds by March 12. After this date, your Barter account will become inactive, and the funds will be inaccessible.”

Customers can log into their accounts and transfer the funds or seek assistance from the company.

Aiming for efficiency

Barter, launched in 2021, offered money transfer and virtual card services. However, Flutterwave stated their intention to revamp the platform in January 2023, aiming for improved efficiency and user experience.

In July 2022, the company had already discontinued the Barter virtual dollar card service due to a partner update impacting service availability.
