South Korea’s Land Minister Won Hee-ryong will visit Nigeria this week to seek closer economic cooperation in infrastructure and energy, his office said Wednesday.
He will also ask Nigeria to support South Korea’s bid to host the 2030 World Expo in Busan.
The two-day visit will start Thursday during which the presidential envoy will meet high-ranking Nigerian officials, according to the country’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
“Nigeria is the biggest overseas construction contractor in the sub-Saharan region, and we hope to maintain the cooperation in the infrastructure sector,” Won said in a statement ahead of the visit.
Won’s visit is part of a broader effort by South Korea to strengthen ties with Nigeria. In May, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol invited Nigerian President Bola Tinubu to visit South Korea.
The visit by Won is a positive sign for relations between South Korea and Nigeria. Both countries have much to offer each other, and closer cooperation could benefit both economies.
