The Kano state election petition court has nullified the election of Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The court declared Nasiru Yusuf-Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the March 18 governorship election.
The three-member tribunal, led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay, held that the margin of votes scored by NNPP was invalid and the election was not conducted in compliance with the electoral law.
The tribunal’s decision is a major setback for the NNPP and its candidate, who won the election by a narrow margin. It is also a victory for the APC and its candidate, who had challenged the results of the election on grounds of irregularities.
