WAEC increases result checking fee by 30%

The exams body raised the fee to N3,900 from N3,000, a 30% increase.

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has announced a price increase for its result checker pins.

The exams body raised the fee to N3,900 from N3,000, a 30% increase, an official of the examination body confirmed to Pluboard on Wednesday.

VTpass, one of the organization’s vendors, also notified its customers of the price increase in an email.

According to the email, the new price policy takes effect immediately.

“Hello esteemed Customer, please be informed of an important update regarding the pricing of WAEC result checker pins. Effective immediately, WAEC result checker will now cost N3,900 instead of N3,000,” the mail said.

The WAEC result checker pin is a unique 12-digit number that allows candidates access results via multiple channels.

High prices

The exams body did not say why it was implementing an increase.

The increase comes at a time of widespread rise in the prices of goods and services in Nigeria as the country faces its highest inflation in nearly two decades.

Consumer price index rose to its highest level in nearly two decades in July at 24.08% against 22.79% in June after the new administration of Bola Tinubu removed scrapped subsidy on petrol and devalued the naira.

In April, WAEC placed the historical data of its exams on sale with rates going as much as over a million naira.
