Pay TV provider, StarTimes, has increased subscription rates for its Nigerian subscribers.
The company said from September 1, all rates will rise by at least 22%.
A company official confirmed the increase to Pluboard on Wednesday.
One of the company’s vendors, VTpass, also notified customers in an email, saying the new rate will affect both the “Antenna DTT and Dish DTH” packages.
“Dear Esteemed Customer, please note there will be an increase in package pricing by Startimes which takes effect this Friday, 1st September, 2023,” the mail said.

The Chinese pay TV provider has become popular in Nigeria, competing in some areas with South Africa’s Multichoice, owners of DSTV and GOtv.
In May 2023, StarTimes shut down transmission via digital video broadcasting–terrestrial 1 (DVB-1), replacing the technology with DVB-T2 it launched 11 years ago. The company said that the DVB-T2 has the ability to offer more channels and quality images to its customers.
This new price adjustment is coming four months after its last review in April.
In the new template, basic bouquet on the DTT antenna increased from N2100 to N2600, the nova rose to N1500 from N1200.
On the DTH antenna, customers subscribing to the super bouquet will have to pay N6500 now, from the previous rate of N5300.
