2023 Unity Schools common entrance results out, 76 pupils score highest

The exams recorded more female than male candidates.

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the results of the 2023 National Common Entrance Examination into unity colleges, with 76 pupils scoring the highest mark of 203.

– Key numbers to note

The federal ministry of education said 72,865 pupils registered for the exams, compared to 71,738 a year ago. Lagos had the highest number with 18,644 and Taraba had the lowest number of candidates, 102.

Some candidates were absent, and 69,829 pupils actually wrote the tests on June 3 in Nigeria, Benin Republic and Togo.

The ministry said the lowest score, 1, was scored by six pupils.

The exams recorded an increase in the number of female students.

“With 38,801 female registrants against 34,064 males, we are making progress with bridging the gender parity,” David Adejo, the permanent secretary in the ministry, told journalists Wednesday after receiving the results from NECO registrar, Ibrahim Wushishi.

The exams are administered for admissions into federal government-owned unity secondary schools.

In 2022, one student got the highest scores 201.

Past results were criticised for the lop-sided admissions cut-off marks assigned to different states. While some candidates from some states could not be admitted with scores as high as 139, those from other states got admission after scoring 2.
