The Anambra student accused of faking her JAMB result, an allegation she has denied, has received a new scholarship offer.
The offer by crypto entrepreneur Gaius Chibueze covers tuition and upkeep to postgraduate level in the U.S., Canada and UK.
– Fake, not fake
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says 19-year-old Mmesoma Ejikeme of Anglican Girls Secondary School Uruagu in Nnewi, tampered with her university admissions result and changed her score from 249 to 362.
On Tuesday, JAMB imposed a three-year ban on the candidate amid calls for a full investigation.
JAMB said the best candidate in the exams nationwide was Nkechinyere Umeh, also from Anambra, who scored 360.
In a video posted on Monday on social media, Ejikeme denied wrongdoing. Displaying a copy of a result sheet, the candidate said she printed the document from JAMB’s website and lamented being accused of forgery. “I am traumatised,” she said.
Before JAMB’s action, Mmesoma’s disputed 362 score, which put her forward as the nation’s best candidate in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), won her scholarship offers, one worth N3 million from the owner of Innoson Motors.
The Anambra government, which also made offers to the student, says it is investigating the case.
Amid the controversy, one of Nigeria’s most known names in the crypto world, Gaius Chibueze, has now offered Mmesoma scholarship, offering her the opportunity to study up to master’s level abroad.
