Twitter chaos as Musk increases readers’ limit above 600 posts

Elon Musk says "rate limits increasing soon to 8000 for verified, 800 for unverified & 400 for new unverified.”

Elon Musk says Twitter will allow users to access to a limited number of posts daily, after he said organizations were “scraping Twitter data aggressively” and that has impacted user experience.

Musk initially said verified accounts were limited to reading 6,000 posts a day, while unverified accounts will be limited to 600 posts a day and new unverified accounts limited to 300.

Later, he tweeted that, “Rate limits increasing soon to 8000 for verified, 800 for unverified & 400 for new unverified.”

He did not say when it would be implemented.

The move came after Twitter announced on Friday that it would require users to have an account on the social media platform to view tweets. Musk said the move was a “temporary emergency measure.”

“Several hundred organizations (maybe more) were scraping Twitter data extremely aggressively, to the point where it was affecting the real user experience,” he wrote.

In the past, Musk accused artificial intelligence firms like those behind ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing, and Google Bard, for using Twitter’s data to train their language models.

– Exceeded the limit

Amid the chaos on Saturday, “#Goodbye Twitter” and “RIP Twitter” trended as users criticised the new measures and accused Musk of ruining the platform since taking over ownership last year.

Several users encountered access restrictions and received notifications stating they had “exceeded the limit” when attempting to view additional posts after an extended period of scrolling.

“I have never seen an app designed to kick you off of it. Social media apps are designed to keep you on it for as long as possible. Goodbye Twitter,” one user tweeted.
