At least eight killed in another attack in Kaduna

The attack comes over a week after at least 10 people were killed there.

A fresh attack in southern Kaduna has claimed at least eight lives, local leaders said.

The attack occurred at Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Kaduna State, on Wednesday in the morning, Francis Sani, chairman of the local government council said.

The area has witnessed several attacks in the volatile north-west state.

Sam Timbuwak, president of Atyap Community Development Association, confirmed the incident on Thursday in an interview with journalists.

Mr Timbuwak said security agencies arrived at the scene after the gunmen had fled the area. The state police spokesperson, Mohammed Jalige, did not respond to calls and a message seeking comments.

The attack came over a week after similar incident reportedly claimed 10 lives in the area.

In March, at least 17 people were killed in an attack there. On April 4, 10 students were abducted from a school in the area.

Ethno-religious attacks are common in the northwest state, especially in the southern region which is dominated by farmers who are mostly Christians.

Locals often blame Fulani herders, but the pastoralists have also reported attacks on their people. The government says the struggle for land and water resources is at the root of the crisis.
