Mr Tinubu of the ruling All Progressive Congress was declared winner of the Feb. 25 presidential election by the electoral commission, Inec.
Main opposition parties PDP and the Labour Party rejected the outcome, alleging a coordinated rigging of the polls. The parties hinge their protest on Inec’s failure to release results of the elections electronically as counting took place as the guidelines stipulates.
Both parties have gone to court to challenge the outcome, but that has not stopped their supporters from demanding the suspension of Mr Tinubu’s swearing-in. They also want court sessions broadcast live.
Demonstrators have held protests in Abuja calling for cancellation of the election. On March 22, Ahmed Datti, vice presidential candidate of the Labour party said it would be unconstitutional for Mr Tinubu to be sworn in as president.
“The Department of State Services (DSS) has identified some key players in the plot for an Interim Government in Nigeria,” public relations officer for the SSS, Peter Afunanya, said in the statement.
“The planners, in their many meetings, have weighed various options, which include, among others, to sponsor endless violent mass protests in major cities to warrant a declaration of State of Emergency. Another is to obtain frivolous court injunctions to forestall the inauguration of new executive administrations and legislative houses at the Federal and State levels.”
The agency said it was in support of the transition and will work with other security bodies to make it succeed.
