Samsung’s new Galaxy A14 5G is quite a phone. It starts at N116,000, and for that you can get a smartphone that has a decent camera system, more than two-day battery life, and is not frustratingly slow.
The A14 is an improvement of its predecessor — the Galaxy A13 5G.
Launched February, the A14 5G looks a little plain, but has more character and certainly doesn’t feel as cheap.
It comes with a 6.6-inch LCD display infused with a 1080-pixel resolution which is sharper than the previous model. That looks just great for reading, gaming, and video streaming.
With 4 GB of RAM inside, users can juggle through the apps without slowing speed.
For battery time-life, the Galaxy A14 5G is equipped with non-removable Li-Po 5000mAh battery that can last up to two days with calls, web surfing, photo/video shots in between. This is boosted with a fast battery charging.
It comes with a 50-megapixel primary camera and has a night mode one can use to take decently bright and sharp images in low light. The 13-megapixel front camera for selfies etc is also fitted with a good quality for a phone with this price range.
There’s also a microSD card slot to expand on the 64 GB of internal storage. Also is the ability to make contactless payments with the near-field communication (NFC) sensor so you can leave the wallet at home.
As the model name implies, the Galaxy A14 5G supports 5G. Very interestingly, Samsung is promising two Android OS updates, which means the phone will receive up to Android 15 by 2024 since it’s already running the latest Android 13.
Downside
The Galaxy A14 5G is not designed for water and dust resistance.
Also, the phone’s mono speaker doesn’t get too loud, doesn’t sound great, and it’s easy to block in landscape mode when you’re playing video games. The easy solution is to just use headphones—wireless or wired because, yes, there’s a headphone jack.
The Galaxy A14 5G allows you to do your basic tasks on the go. For the current economic conditions, its price is average for a 5G smartphone.
